Students wait in lines for new Panther cards

Panther Central didn’t have new IDs ready for some students and faculty members yesterday.

The University preordered the majority of the more than 30,000 news IDs in June, Panther Central manager Jessica Larson said. People who don’t have a photo on file — transfer students and new faculty members, for example — will have to wait while Panther Central prints new IDs for them.

Students and faculty members who have photos on file can swap their old cards for new ones.

Larson said she doesn’t know how many people will have to wait for Panther Central print their IDs.

Get your Facts straight!

I have been following this re-carding event from day 1 as this new technology being introduced with these new cards is amazing. Question....Why are you trying to discredit the Student Services Department? There have been three articles/blurbs printed in the Pitt News, including this most recent one, in the last two months regarding this huge endeavor listing clear and concise instructions concerning new ID pick up. This most recent 'blurb' in the Pitt News misleads faculty members into thinking they have to get their new ID's at the ongoing event in Posvar Hall. It was clearly stated in previous articles printed on 10/04 by Erin Block and 11/02 by Staff:

10/04
"Panther Central will distribute the new cards Nov. 2-13. Graduate students will pick up their new cards at their designated department. Faculty and staff will swap their cards with their department administrators.

Undergraduate students, excluding seniors, have a different set of instructions to follow. Students have a match day according to their last name. On their designated day, students will go to the Posvar Hall galleria between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. with their old cards to receive a new one. The pick-up date for students corresponds with the first letter of their last name. Students who can’t make it during their assigned days are allowed to go during a more convenient time within the two-week duration."

11/02
"Graduate students will pick up their new IDs in their designated departments, and faculty and staff will pick them up from theiProxy-Connection: keep-alive
Cache-Control: max-age=0
department administrators."

Obviously, you didn't do your research before submitting this misinformed report.
Let me tell you, The Pitt News has gone down hill. Not only is your grammar horrible, your details are very inconsistent. You're telling me that nobody verified the accuracy of this article or proofread it prior to printing it? Rather than writing to spark controversy with the University community, report for accuracy and include as much precise information as possible in all entries.
And, of course Panther Central cannot provide hard numbers for 'how many people will have to wait'. Do you know how many people are involved in the make up of this University? Out of those people, do you know how many students transfer, drop out, etc...how many staff and faculty quit or are dismissed and how long that takes to process with HR??? The list is endless. You are a way below average reporter. The readers of this paper deserve more and better. Please work hard to improve your skills for any future articles. By all means, GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT!
