    Twelve teams from the Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business competed last semester in the McKinsey Cup Playoffs, a competition that judged their ability to apply learned skills to corporate environments.

Editorial: Apple's decision is music to downloader's ears

At the Macworld 2009 keynote yesterday, Phil Schiller, Apple’s vice president of worldwide product marketing, made an announcement that music aficionados had been waiting to hear for close to a decade. Apple’s iTunes service will offer customers the option to purchase high-quality songs free of Digital Rights Management software. Apple recently reached an agreement with Sony BMG, Warner Music, Universal Music and EMI, which allowed the move to take place.

Turnpike tolls rise, students change plans

In an effort to generate funds, the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission increased toll fees by 25 percent last Sunday, awith annual 3 percent increases expected after 2009.

The most common, 75-cent tolls rose to 95 cents, and the $1 tolls rose to $1.25.

Marketing plan a success for Pederson, Pitt

When Pitt athletic director Steve Pederson arrived on campus last December, no one was sure what to expect. Football ticket sales were down as Pitt finished its third-straight losing season. The program, which hadn’t earned a bowl bid in three years, seemed like it was falling apart.

But only a few days later, Pederson realized that he was standing over a sleeping giant. He just needed to wake it up.
